Is Darjeeling a Black Tea?

Darjeeling is a single estate tea. Darjeeling tea is grown in Darjeeling, Northern India. A Single Estate Tea or single origin tea, just as the name suggests, is a tea that is grown on one tea estate or tea plantation. Other single estate teas include Assam, Nilgiri and Keemun.

Darjeeling can be processed as different types of tea: as black, oolong, green or white tea. It is quite a complex sort of tea and comes in an array of flavor profiles depending on the weather, how and when the tea is harvested and also how it is processed.

Darjeeling Cocktails

Turning this iced Darjeeling tea into a cocktail is easy! Simply add a dash of your favorite tipple, I would recommend a darker spirit such as brandy, bourbon, whisky or dark rum.

What is Darjeeling Tea?

Like Assam tea, Darjeeling tea is classified by flushes. The first flush being the finest and more delicate yet sometimes more astringent in taste. The second flush being darker, bolder but sometimes less astringent in taste.

Darjeeling tea is made in flushes, first flush, second flush, third flush. Each flush relates to the time of year that the leaves are harvested. Each flush will have different characteristics and each will be dependent on the season and the weather patterns for that season.
