How to Make an Earl Grey Whisky Sour at Home

If you're a fan of a classic whisky sour but want to mix things up, try this delicious Earl Grey whisky sour cocktail! With the addition of bergamot-scented Earl Grey tea, this cocktail takes on a unique and fragrant flavor that pairs perfectly with the boldness of the whisky. And for an extra twist, use fresh loquats or other stone fruits like plums, peaches, or apricots to add a subtle sweetness and tartness to the drink. Simply muddle the fruit and mix with the tea, whisky, lemon juice, and a touch of simple syrup for a perfectly balanced and refreshing drink. So why not impress your guests or treat yourself to something special with this Earl Grey whisky sour cocktail recipe?

Loquats in Bermuda

It’s loquat season here in Bermuda and I picked a whole bunch of them, I made tea, I made jam and I made these paleo crumble top pies with chai, and I still had some left over. They don’t last too long once picked and I had to get my thinking cap on sharpish….

I came up with this fabulous Earl grey whisky sour cocktail with earl grey tea and a dash of elderberry syrup for extra sour-y goodness. However, you can use different fruits for this recipe such as apricots or cherries so don’t worry if you can’t get your hands on any loquats.

Earl grey tea is flavoured with bergamot. The citrusy flavour of the bergamot in earl grey tea pairs perfectly with lemon and honey in a whisky sour cocktail. Loquats also have a rather citrus-like taste. If you live somewhere without these fabulous trees, you can simply swap out the loquats for apricots for an apricot sour, or perhaps plums or cherries would be nice. It’s great to experiment with the flavours!

What is a Good Whisky for an Earl Grey Whisky Sour?

You can use any good whisky you like to make a whisky sour. I’m using this Lost Distillery Company Towiemore Scotch Whisky for this recipe. I naughtily opened a bottle of my husbands whisky at Christmas time and it’s now my new favourite hot toddy tipple! But feel free to use any of your favourite whiskies for this recipe.

What Does a Loquat Taste Like?

A ripe loquat will have a sweet but slightly tart taste, they will be bright orange in colour and soft to touch. They remind me of a soft apple with a slight citrus taste. An unripe loquat will be sour and unpleasant.
