A white tea shot is a classic simple mixed drink made with peach schnapps, vodka, sour mix and soda. It can be made with or without the tea. Obviously, my version is made with tasteful tea rather than soda to give this cocktail extra elegance! You can down them like traditional white tea shooters, slowly sip them as tall drinks or make a big jug of this lively cocktail for everyone to enjoy. All three ways are perfect for entertaining! Here is my recipe for making easy white tea shots at home.
Is There White Tea in a White Tea Shot?
The classic white tea shot cocktail doesn’t usually contain tea, the name of this drink comes from it’s clear color. First came the green tea shot which also doesn’t contain any tea. The green tea shot is made with Jameson whiskey and gets its name from the slight greeny hue of the liqueur. The white tea shot was created as a spin off drink and thus was called a white tea shot as a sort of sister cocktail to the green tea shot.
My version of this drink is made with actual white tea and it tastes blooming delish! Adding tea is a wonderful way to create layers of unique and yet delicate flavours to make the best tea infused cocktails.
What is in a White Tea Shot?
A traditional white tea shot typically consists of a blend of soda (or white tea!), vodka, and a sweetener such as honey or simple syrup. The ingredients are mixed together and served chilled in a shot glass. Some variations may also include additional flavors such as lemon or ginger for an extra kick. The result is a smooth and slightly sweet cocktail with a delicate tea flavor that is perfect for sipping on its own or as a complement to a larger meal.
My version is a little different to the classic with a tea twist. Here, I’m using vodka and peach schnapps just like the classic cocktail, however I love switching the sour mix for a simple homemade citrus honey mix, and swapping the soda for homemade sparkling iced tea.
What is White Tea?
White tea is a type of tea that’s predominantly grown and harvested in the northern district of Fujian, China. This type of tea is the least processed of all the tea types. White tea is made of young tea buds and tea leaves. The taste is light, delicate and naturally sweet. Depending on the kind of white tea, some flavours and aromas will be honey-like, fruity or earthy. The essence of the white tea perfectly compliments the sweet peachiness of the peach schnapps and really brings this mixed drink together. You can, of course, use sparkling lemonade or sprite if you prefer.
Tips for Making White Tea Shots
To make cold brewed sparkling iced tea: Make this cocktail using iced tea, iced sparkling tea or the traditional lemon and lime soda/sprite. Here is how to make your own carbonated tea (my preferred method!): Add 1-2 teaspoons of loose leaf tea per 1 cup of carbonated water. Allow to infuse in the fridge for at least 4 hours before straining out the leaves with a fine mesh strainer into your cocktail.
Sour mix: You can use shop bought sour mix for this recipe, or a quick homemade citrus honey mix. Take the juice of 1 lime (or lemon) and combine with 2-4 tablespoons of light honey (or agave/sugar if you prefer).
Sweetener: I like adding light honey to this cocktail as white tea generally has sweet floral peachy honey notes. Light honey is also a better choice for this cocktail to keep the clear white colour. However, if you aren’t a fan of honey, switch for any sweetener that takes your fancy.
Shake it: Use a cocktail shaker or a mason jar/jam jar with a lid to mix this drink. If you decide to make a large pitcher for entertaining, add your ingredients (without the tea) to your jug and use a mudder or wooden spoon to mix everything together before topping up with your sparkling tea or soda.

To make any variation of this cocktail, you can use sparkling white tea or traditional lemonade/sprite. I would recommend preparing some cold brewed iced tea by adding 1-2 teaspoons of loose leaf per 1 cup of carbonated water and allowing to steep in the fridge for at least 4 hours.
