Does a Horchata Contain Oat Milk?
A horchata is traditionally made with rice, tigernuts or other types of plants. I’m using oats to make this horchata. Oats are great at producing a thick creamy milk. Oat milks are gaining huge popularity these days because they are wonderfully thick without the added thickening agents that many non dairy milks contain.
For making this Horchata, you can either use shop bought oat milk for ease and speed, or make it from scratch. When making oat milk from scratch, there are a few things to note to avoid the oats going slimy. Firstly, never pre-soak the oats and secondly, do not use a nut milk bag to strain the oats. Any squeezing, will result in slime. When straining the liquid, it is best to pour through a fine mesh sieve or strainer.
