Does Matcha Make you Look Younger?

Tea is incredibly high in antioxidants. Matcha green tea powder is even higher in antioxidants than regular tea as the whole leaf is infused and consumed rather than just by an infusion. Recent studies suggest that the number of catechins (anti oxidants) in matcha is up to 137 times higher than in green tea.

The catechins found in green tea are known to aid in removing free radicals from the body. Free radicals are the nasties that speed up the aging process in our bodies. The catechins in tea can aid in removing these free radicals from the body.

Pearl Extract and Adaptogens

I love using anti aging adaptogens such as these in my smoothies:

  • Goji Berry Powder

  • Schisandra Berry Powder

  • Ashwagandha Root

  • Pearl Extract

Adaptogens are found in plants that can help heal our bodies. They have been used in ayurvedic medicine for centuries to aid in ancient healing practices. Many adaptogens are made into powders, capsules or tinctures. There are reports that adaptogens have anti-stress and anti-aging effects on the body. When the body is able to cope with stress, it is less likely to suffer from anxiety, illnesses and cell damage.

Pearl extract has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years for a glowing youthful appearance and to bring serenity to stress and anxiety. It is also used in Ayurvedic medicine for its cooling qualities, to balance out the ‘pitta dosha’. It is also used in ayurvedic aphrodisiac and love potions. Pearl contains something called conchiolin, this is what gives pearls that beautiful pearlescent colour. Conchiolin in pearl extract can aid in collagen production and in turn give us that much sought after radiance that pearls so famously exude.

Schisandra berries have been used in Chinese herbal remedies with goji berries and ginseng for centuries. During the 1960s, schisandra berries became recognised for being an adaptogen. Studies show that schissandra berries can aid in controlling the release of hormones, can help protect the skin from weather damage and also aid in the treatment and prevention of dermatitis and other inflammatory skin conditions.

Youth Boosting Collagen

Collagen supplements are seriously hot right now as the anti aging supplement everyone is talking about. And I love this one by Vital Proteins, apparently Jennifer Aniston uses this one - so it must be good !

As we age, our bodies show signs of loss of collagen and degeneration by way of wrinkles, sagging, muscle loss and niggly joint pains.

Studies show that collagen peptides can aid in improving the health of skin, hair and improve muscle mass and also improve aches and pains.

Fruits and Veggies

Banana’s are a great way of adding fiber, resistant starch and essential nutrients into your diet.

Blueberries contain anthocyanin, this is what gives blueberries their beautiful blue colour and their amazing health benefits. One cup of blueberries (or 100g) provides 24% of the recommended daily dose of vitamin c. Collagen in the skin needs vitamin c in order to keep skin soft and youthful.

Spinach also plays an important role in protecting the skin. The phytonutrients and pigments in spinach can help protect the skin from UV rays.
